At the end of the love duet ("Des présents de Gunther" / "Avec ces fleurs", acte IV), Sigurd goes to Gunther to revenge his honour and to win Brunehild's hand.
At this point, all recordings (was it integral for the world creation in 1884 ?) cut the second duo between Hilda and Brunehild. It is very important since we hear a motive sung by Brunehild ("O dieux qui lisez dans mon âme") - praying for finding again the peace of the flame circle where she was asleep. This motive is the one you can hear at the clarinet in the recordings when Brunehild dies, just after the cut.

Moreover, this prayer is an echo to the one she adresses to Odin in the 1/3 cut in the beautiful aria "O palais radieux". There, she says that the forbidden love to Sigurd is done by Odin to punish her rebellion. Which makes a very complete interpretation of all the plot : Brunehild was the supernatural force which saved Sigurd surrounded by Hilda's ennemies. So Hilda could love her saviour, and Brunehild could be punished... and released by Sigurd.

Therefore it is very sad, since the music is equally beautiful, to cut these parts. Because of the drama and because of the music.

Summary of this duo :
- Hilda appears. Brunehild tells her Gunther is going to assassinate Sigurd, and asks her to guide them in the forest, in order to save the hero.
- Hilda refuses, since she understood Sigurd loved Brunehild. First daydream of Brunehild ("O gods who read in my soul / Gods of the bright red sky / Give me back my flame palace / Give me back my quiet sleep !").
- Hilda urges to Brunehild to give Sigurd up. Second daydream of Brunehild, on the same text.
- Hilda : "The one who we love, Brunehild, will die." Brunehild accepts, overcome.

After this, we meet the usual version : Brunehild feels it is late - and she dies instantly with Sigurd.
