Paul Wranitzky (1756-1808), czesh composer (as his brother Antonín), germanized his name with his successes in Austria.

Herer I propose a highlight from a quite unknown opera, Oberon, König der Elfen (1789), a Singspiel.

His libretto by Seyler and Giesecke considerably influenced Schickaneder in the elaboration of his own play, Die Zauberflöte. You will find very similar characters, among which Titania and her dreadful coloraturas.

Moreover, the music is very close to Mozart's, and, in my opinion, really better-written : very few "numeros" of little interest.

In fact, the music uses already romantic colours and at the same place in the action, we can hear another music in the same style and mood as Oberon by Weber / Planché (1826 !).

A very exciting opera that would deserve a commercial publication... Even better than Hozbauer, for example.

Plot : You can hear Oberon, after having recounted the dream in which he fell in love with the distant Rezia, trying to explain to Scherasmin the danger of his mission.

"Ich will, ich muss" = "I will, I must"

I deliberately left the dialogues that are part of the aesthetics in Singspiel.
